I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes. Yves Saint Laurent

Remembering 80s Fashion

When you think about the 80s, what comes to mind? The Brat Pack movies, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and hair bands are a given, but there is something that stands out from all the rest when it comes to 80s popular culture, and that is 80s fashion.

The Many Examples of 80s Fashion

The unique thing about 80s fashion is that you can see it anywhere and know exactly what decade it came from. This is not as true with fashion from, for example, the 60s and 70s, because they tended to blend in. No, 80s fashion is indeed in a category all its own.

Tube socks are something that boys still wear today, but 80s fashion had girls wearing tube socks with practically any kind of outfit. It should be noted, however, that the tube socks had to be scrunched into ruffles for a really cool look.

After the movie Flashdance, overly large sweaters that fell to the side over one shoulder (with a gym bra strap showing) were the defining 80s fashion look for teenage girls. As an addition to the look, the hair had to be swept up with a scrunchie into a ponytail that was on the side of the head.

Something that was often seen in 80s movies as an example of 80s fashion were stonewashed jeans, and the jeans had to be tight. These were commonly worn by guys with shirt or t-shirts that had really decorative, fluorescent prints, but they could be worn by women as well.

Another 80s fashion example is leg warmers. These were made popular after Olivia Newton Johns music video Lets Get Physical. Soon, teenage girls were wearing leg warmers over skirts, spandex pants, or shorts.

When it came to accessories, the ultimate 80s fashion statement was bangle bracelets, and the more that were worn on an arm, the better. These were often paired with large hoop earrings. For the guys, a really popular accessory was fluorescent shoelaces.

Another popular fashion statement that ended up moving from the late 80s into the early 90s was womens hats. These hats often were the feminine version of bowlers, and were decorated with fake flowers or sometimes other decorative prints.

There were many other 80s fashion trends, some that would still be cool today, and others that would just be considered hilarious. Indeed, 80s fashion was all about being creatively unique.

How to Have Gorgeous Looking Lips
By Mercedes Aspland

Your lips are one of your most valuable assets. They can be used to seduce and to attract that special person. They can light up a room with your smile and brighten up peoples day. It is important to take care of your lips and to know what to do to get them most out of what you have. This article will help with a few tips on how to have great lips.

Lip Care

Taking good care of your lips can not be done by one simple task, but instead a series of tasks that need to be performed on a regular basis to get the best results. Luscious lips set the perfect mood for romance. To get the most out of them, take regular care of your lips, so that they look fresh and healthy. Luscious lips also provide you the opportunity to stand out in the crowd and they bring you in the limelight.

You will need to take extra care to protect your lips in the winter when they are exposed to the cold and the wind. Remember to eat plenty of vegetables and fruits which are rich in Vitamins and ensure you maintain a good intake of water.

Every morning it is a good idea to brush your lips with a soft toothbrush and then apply lip balm to obtain those lipstick worthy lips. Remember your lips will only look beautiful and attractive if they are healthy. If you apply your lipstick onto dry and chapped lips they will look unattractive and get you attention for all the wrong reasons. Try not to lick your lips as this will only help to dry them out.

How to get Sexier Looking Lips

If you have thin lips or would like to get a sexier, fuller look then follow the below steps and your pout will be irresistible:

1. Get a natural lip liner, and carefully draw around the very rim of your lips. If you get a wobbly line, dont panic, just carefully remove it and start again. When you have a firm line, fill in the rest of your lips with the same colour.

2. Now for some lip-gloss. Keep the colour of your lip gloss neutral and try to stay away from colours that are too dark or too light. Remember that gloss may look better than lipstick but it does not stay on as well, so make sure you keep it in your purse and re-apply during the day.

3. Now the finishing touch. All you have to do is dot a white shimmery product like eye shadow or an eyebrow highlighter in the very centre of your lips. Start slowly, and blend very carefully. What you are looking to achieve is natural looking shading, with your lip colour being lighter where your mouth opens. This will create the illusion of beautiful full lips.

Longer Lasting Lipstick

If you are applying lipstick you dont want it to come off as soon as you arrive at your destination. There are plenty of things you can do to make your lipstick last longer, but here is my favourite which is used by many celebrity makeup artists:

1. Apply foundation over lips first
2. Apply lip liner to lips and fill in lipstick with a lip brush
3. Bite onto a piece of tissue and blot lips
4. Dust lips lightly with translucent powder
5. Apply final coat of lipstick

Follow the above steps and you will have great looking gorgeous lips all of the time and who wouldnt say no to that.

Although a life-long fashion dropout, I have absorbed enough by reading Harper's Bazaar while waiting at the dentist's to have grasped that the purpose of fashion is to make A Statement. My own modest Statement, discerned by true cognoscenti, is, "Woman Who Wears Clothes So She Won't Be Naked." Molly Ivins
